Celebrating Gemma’s Nomination for Photographer of the Year 2025

We are beyond proud to share some incredibly exciting news from the The Society of Photographers.

Our wonderful photographer Gemma has been officially nominated for Photographer of the Year 2025, following winning a Gold Award image in her category. This year, judges selected just three images per category, and from those, one overall winner will be chosen — making this nomination a truly outstanding achievement.

The winners will be announced at the Society’s prestigious Awards Presentation Evening on Friday 16th January 2026, held at the Novotel London West, Hammersmith, where all nominees will be invited on stage to receive their certificate before the category winners — and ultimately the overall Photographer of the Year — are revealed.

From 2020 to Now — Gemma’s Journey

What makes this nomination even more special is just how far Gemma has come.

Gemma joined our studio in October 2020, right in the middle of the COVID pandemic — a time filled with uncertainty, constant change, and no small amount of stress for small businesses everywhere. Despite this, Gemma showed incredible resilience, calmness, and compassion, becoming a steady and reassuring presence for both our team and our clients during one of the most challenging periods our industry has faced.

Her commitment to the studio went even further when she relocated from Birmingham to Cannock, purely to be closer to the studio and fully invest in her role and growth as a photographer.

A Photographer with Heart

Gemma’s favourite sessions are maternity and newborn photography, where her gentle nature and creativity truly shine — but above all, she is passionate about people photography in all its forms. Her ability to connect, put clients at ease, and create meaningful images is at the heart of everything she does.

Watching her progress creatively and professionally over the years has been a privilege, and this nomination is a reflection of the dedication, talent, and heart she brings to every shoot.

Why Awards Matter to Us

At the studio, we strongly believe in the value of professional awards — not for ego, but for growth, accountability, and self-improvement. All of our awards are earned using real client work, which means they are a direct reflection of the consistently high standards our clients can expect from us.

We’re also proud that Directors Jay & Laura are themselves past winners of SWPP awards. In fact, Laura won Overall Photographer of the Year in 2008 with a child’s portrait — an achievement that continues to inspire our team today.
